Why the name "Fire Tower" ?

We've been asked from time to time, why "Fire Tower"?

Do you guys engineer fire towers or something?

In reality, the name comes from the Hyland Hill fire tower just outside of Keene, NH.  A place that has not only a great view, but, a great hike (or bike ride, or snow-shoe) to get up to.  And is also close by where we originally started.

The fire tower itself is a 53' steel tower, built in 1930.  https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=14/42.9606/-72.4000&layers=C

And yes, we will engineer you a fire tower, maybe even one taller, and out of wood.  Need inspiration?  The Forest Service has some old plans - they used to be BOLD.  https://www.fs.fed.us/database/acad/lt/
