Lukas was born and raised in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of northern Virginia, and resides there currently as a licensed professional engineer.

With a BS in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University (2009) and an MS in Building Science from Appalachian State University (2014) he enjoys a broad perspective when it comes to the design, engineering, and construction of structures. Throughout his career, he has enjoyed working alongside builders and architects on a variety of residential and commercial projects including single family homes, schools, apartments, historic restoration, yurts, treehouses, zip lines, shipping containers, barns, churches, and more.

Lukas’ personal and professional interests have always been focused on the fine craftsmanship and unique properties of designing and building with warmth and beauty of wood. In 2022 he put his skills to the test and started building a structure of his own to serve as his office, workshop, and home. With that project “finished” he began to think about joining a team that would allow him to collaborate and continue pursuing his interests in the design and engineering of quality wood structures.

It should be known that Lukas had his eye on the reputable FTET for some time before reaching out… The timing finally felt right and he joined the Fire Tower Engineered Timber team in the summer of 2025. He quickly felt welcome and at home.

When not at the desk, Lukas enjoys many activities including but not limited to carpentry, fine woodworking, hunting, exploring the outdoors, cooking, traveling, sewing and textile crafts, coffee, and chillin’ on the couch.
